Softball Game Preview: Andover Central Jaguars vs. Maize South Mavericks

Andover Central is 0-5 against Maize South since April of 2016 but things could change on Friday. The Jaguars will welcome the Mavericks. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Andover Central 3.6, Maize South 0.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Andover Central made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Seaman, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Jaguars fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 4-2 on Friday. That's two games in a row now that the Jaguars have lost by exactly two runs.

Meanwhile, Maize South strolled into their game on Thursday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They never let Great Bend get on the board and left with an 11-0 win. Fans of the Mavericks have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

Sophie Stockam made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 18 over seven innings pitched. Stockam was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kiley Thornquist, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Lizzy Lassley was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Maize South always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Great Bend only posted an OBP of .087.

Maize South's victory bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Andover Central, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
