Sierra Grande waltzed into their game on Tuesday with nine straight wins... but they left with ten. They breezed past the La Veta Redhawks to the tune of 65-31. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 116th, while the Redhawks are ranked 319th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Sierra Grande was led to victory by Aron Ojeda and Jadyn Martinez. Ojeda went 11-for-20 on his way to 25 points and seven steals, while Martinez went 6-for-11 en route to 20 points in addition to seven steals and five rebounds. Martinez's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Rolando Najera, who posted six points along with nine assists and five boards.

La Veta's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tristan Musgrave, who had six points.

Sierra Grande pushed their record up to 14-2 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 22.0 points over those games. As for La Veta, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-11.

Coming up, Sierra Grande will challenge Hoehne at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hoehne knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Sierra Grande likes a good challenge. As for La Veta, they will face off against Walsh at 2:00 p.m. on Friday.
