Softball Recap: Hammond Bishop Noll Takes a Loss

Hammond Bishop Noll blew Whiting out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Tuesday Whiting got their revenge. The Warriors fell just short of the Oilers by a score of 9-7. The Warriors were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Oilers earlier this season, when they won 16-0.

Molly Whelan put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off five hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI.

In other batting news, Aiyanna (Yani) Espinosa stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs. Caitlyn Walker was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Hammond Bishop Noll has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-4 record this season. As for Whiting, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hammond Bishop Noll will venture away from home to square off against Highland at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Whiting, they will head out to face off against Morgan Township at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cherokees have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.91 runs per game on average), something the Oilers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
