Marquette is 0-9 against Gladstone since April of 2018 but things could change on Wednesday. The Sentinels will be playing in front of their home fans against the Braves at 4:30 p.m. Marquette is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.6 runs per game this season.
On Monday, Marquette didn't have quite enough to beat Negaunee and fell 6-5.
Grace Sandstrom was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one triple and two RBI. That triple was her first of the season.
Meanwhile, Gladstone put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Kingsford a 6-0 shutout. Considering the Braves have won eight games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Kingsford's batters probably weren't too happy with Tia Schone, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 16 Ks (she gave up zero walks). Schone has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Lauren Sundquist, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted over her last six matchups. Maddie Sundquist was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Gladstone was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kingsford only posted a batting average of .000.
Gladstone's win bumped their record up to 12-0. As for Marquette, their loss dropped their record down to 13-5.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Marquette has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .504. However, it's not like Gladstone struggles in that department as they've averaged .495. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Marquette might still be hurting after the 12-1 defeat they got from Gladstone when the teams last played back in April. Will the Sentinels have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
