Baseball Recap: Holy Ghost Prep Comes Up Short

Holy Ghost Prep was the 6-5 winner over Archbishop Wood when they last played one another back in March of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Firebirds fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 2-1 on Thursday. The Firebirds have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Bam McNabb was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over eight innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Holy Ghost Prep saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Matt Baker, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI.

Holy Ghost Prep now has a losing record of 6-7. As for Archbishop Wood, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 12-3.

Looking ahead, Holy Ghost Prep will challenge Neumann-Goretti at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Saints' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Firebirds' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Archbishop Wood, they will face off against Germantown Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
