Basketball Recap: Seven Rivers Christian Comes Up Short

If Seven Rivers Christian was feeling good fresh off their 72-38 takedown of Hernando Christian Academy last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Seven Rivers Christian Warriors took a 74-65 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bishop McLaughlin Catholic Hurricanes on Friday. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 59-54 back in December of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Seven Rivers Christian lost, don't look at Michael Johnston. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 24 points and 13 boards. Johnston continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Anthony Nott, who posted 13 points and five rebounds.

Conor Whalen was a one-man wrecking crew for Bishop McLaughlin Catholic as he went 10 of 18 en route to 26 points along with five assists and five boards. Those 26 points gave Whalen a new career-high. Alexavier Dorval-Ferris was another key player, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Seven Rivers Christian's loss dropped their record down to 10-13. As for Bishop McLaughlin Catholic, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-4.

Both are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Seven Rivers Christian will challenge St. John Lutheran at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Seven Rivers Christian is facing St. John Lutheran at the right time seeing as St. John Lutheran is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Bishop McLaughlin Catholic, they will take on Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.2 points per game this season.
