Baseball Recap: Borrego Springs Wins Going Away Against Calipatria

Borrego Springs made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Calipatria, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Rams put the hurt on the Hornets with a sharp 17-6 victory on Tuesday. Surprisingly, this marked the fifth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

Chris Alcaraz and Joey Rocha were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Alcaraz tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Rocha struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. Alcaraz has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Alcaraz scored four runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-4, while Rocha scored five runs and stole three bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Those four hits gave Alcaraz a new career-high.

In other batting news, Borrego Springs got a massive performance out of AB Arambula, who scored two runs and stole four bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. The Rams are undefeated when Arambula posts two or more stolen bases, but 1-2 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Mauricio Rodriguez, who scored three runs while going 2-for-4.

Borrego Springs always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Borrego Springs pushed their record up to 6-2 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Calipatria, the loss snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 4-3 record.

Coming up, Borrego Springs will host St. Joseph Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Rams are facing the Crusaders at the right time seeing as the Crusaders are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Calipatria, they will head out on the road to square off against Mountain Empire at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
