Baseball Recap: South Bend Riley Wildcats vs. Calumet Christian Patriots
South Bend Riley had lost 15 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 3-15 to make it 16. They took a 10-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Calumet Christian Patriots. If the Wildcats were looking for revenge after losing 5-3 to the Patriots when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Murell Smith and Liam Wolf did some serious damage despite the final result: Smith went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Wolf went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Those hits were Smith's first of the season.
As for Calumet Christian, they now have a winning record of 10-9. The high-scoring effort was just what they needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
On Calumet Christian's side, they got a big performance out of Ryan Jackson, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Kole Klein, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Coincidentally, South Bend Riley and Calumet Christian will both be playing Chicago Christian the next time they take the field. The Patriots will head out to face the Knights at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, while the Wildcats will play them later in the day, at 3:00 p.m.
