Preview: Hanna Golden Eagles vs. Rivera Raiders
Hanna has been on the road for two straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Rivera Raiders at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hanna comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 18 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
Hanna suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Wednesday. They had to suffer through a rough 68-13 loss at the hands of Weslaco. While losing is never fun, Hanna can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1012th, while Weslaco is ranked 320th).
Meanwhile, Rivera's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fifth straight loss. They were dealt a 75-42 defeat at the hands of Harlingen. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Rivera has suffered against Harlingen since December 15, 2020.
The losing side was boosted by Caitlin Cardenas, who scored 20 points.
Hanna bumped their record down to 12-17 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 23.4 points per game. As for Rivera, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-18 record this season.
