Softball Recap: Rimrock Raiders vs. Wilder Wildcats
Rimrock extended their losing streak to six on Monday, dropping their season record down to 0-6 in the process. They came up short against the Wilder Wildcats, falling 21-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 24-7 back in March.
As for Wilder, the victory got them back to even at 5-5. Considering they have won four matches by more than nine runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
For Wilder's part, N. Escutia made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over four innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off only two hits. Escutia has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, M. Longest was a standout: she got on base in all five of her plate appearances with eight stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was A. Scott, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rimrock will challenge Idaho City at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Wildcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.31 runs per game on average), something the Raiders will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Wilder, they will take on Horseshoe Bend at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
