Softball Game Preview: Briarwood Christian Lions vs. John Carroll Catholic Cavaliers

The Briarwood Christian Lions will square off against the John Carroll Catholic Cavaliers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Briarwood Christian will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.

Having struggled with ten defeats in a row, Briarwood Christian turned things around against Shelby County on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-8 victory over the Wildcats. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Lions have posted since February 28th.

Larsen Cummings made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over eight innings while giving up three earned (and five unearned) runs off seven hits. Cummings was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Briarwood Christian got a massive performance out of MK Sweatt, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. Those two hits gave Sweatt a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ashley Heinemann, who went 3-for-5 with one home run and two runs.

Briarwood Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .395. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, John Carroll Catholic was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They lost 14-4 to Pelham.

Briarwood Christian's victory bumped their record up to 4-13-1. As for John Carroll Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-19.
