Baseball Recap: Casa Grande Comes Up Short

Casa Grande extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 11-12 in the process. They came up short against the Catalina Foothills Falcons, falling 8-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Falcons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-3 on Tuesday.

Cole Rice made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run. Casa Grande is 4-2 when Rice posts one or more home runs, but 7-10 otherwise.

As for Catalina Foothills, the victory was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 19-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games.

On Catalina Foothills' side, Yaxel Ledesma and Ganon Dwyer made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Ledesma pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Dwyer tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Ledesma has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Ledesma went 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Dwyer went 1-for-3 with three RBI. That's the most hits Ledesma has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cooper Kruk, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Casa Grande is set to challenge their familiar foe Maricopa at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Catalina Foothills will square off against rival Canyon del Oro at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Falcons 2.9, the Dorados 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
