Recap: Rockford Rockets vs. Minneapolis Southwest Lakers

If the Rockford Rockets were feeling good off their 64-27 takedown of the Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted Lakers on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Rockford had to suffer through a rough 63-34 loss at the hands of Minneapolis Southwest. While losing is never fun, Rockford can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 286th, while Minneapolis Southwest is ranked 104th).

When it comes to explaining why Rockford lost on Friday, one person who can't be blamed is Evelyn Engebretson. Despite the final result, she scored 21 points. Engebretson continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Sienna Thomas was another key contributor, scoring six points.

Rockford now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Minneapolis Southwest, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rockford is on the road again on January 5, 2024 and play against New London-Spicer at 7:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Minneapolis Southwest and Roosevelt will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
