Volleyball Preview: Mumford Mustangs vs. Hearne Eagles

Mumford is 5-0 against Hearne since September of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Mumford Mustangs are taking a road trip to take on the Hearne Eagles at 4:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Last Tuesday, Mumford didn't have quite enough to beat Bremond and fell 3-2. While the Mustangs didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Tigers 25-16 in the first set.

Mumford actually scored more points across those five sets (113-98), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The match finished with set scores of 16-25, 25-21, 11-25, 29-27, 17-15.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Nancy Galvan, who had 27 digs. She has been hot recently, having posted 14 or more digs the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Reyan Lehoski, who had 13 digs.

Meanwhile, Hearne was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 17th straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against Burton, falling 3-0.

The final score came out to 25-3, 25-9, 25-4.

This is the second loss in a row for Mumford and nudges their season record down to 20-13. As for Hearne, their loss dropped their record down to 0-15.

Everything went Mumford's way against Hearne in their previous meeting on October 8th, as Mumford made off with a 3-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mumford since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
