Softball Game Preview: Milford Tigers vs. Piute Thunderbirds

For the first time this season, Milford will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup on Thursday. They will welcome the Piute Thunderbirds at 3:30 p.m. The timing is sure in Milford's favor as the squad sits on four straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Piute has been banged up by seven consecutive losses on the road also dating back to last season.

Milford's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They were the clear victor by a 16-0 margin over North Summit. Fans of the Tigers have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

Jaidyn McMullin made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, Whitney Wiseman was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Hadley Griffiths, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Milford always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .750. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .536 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, Piute fell victim to Pine View and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They came up short against the Panthers, falling 15-0.

Piute's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Milford, their win bumped their record up to 5-0.

Everything went Milford's way against Piute when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Milford made off with a 13-2 victory. Does Milford have another victory up their sleeve, or will Piute turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
