Preview: York Cougars vs. Northwestern Trojans
York is 1-8 against the Trojans since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The York Cougars will be staying on the road to face off against the Northwestern Trojans at 7:45 p.m. on February 2nd. Hopefully York focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up six on Wednesday.
York struggled with assists on Wednesday (the Copperheads had 11 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. York was beaten by the Copperheads 75-45. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for York in their matchups with the Copperheads: they've now lost seven in a row.
York's defeat came about despite a quality game from Bryson Steele, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaxon Wilkins-Graham, who scored four points.
Meanwhile, Northwestern's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss. They fell just short of Indian Land by a score of 53-50.
York's loss was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-15. As for Northwestern, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-13 record this season.
York suffered a grim 71-50 defeat to the Trojans in their previous matchup back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Northwestern's Mason Mitchell, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Now that York knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
