Recap: Athenian Owls vs. Head-Royce Jayhawks

If the Athenian Owls were feeling good off their 81-34 takedown of the Valley Christian Vikings last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The game between Athenian and Head-Royce wasn't particularly close, with Athenian falling 77-61. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.

Athenian's loss on Friday came despite strong showings from Surya Devasenapathy and Evan Lucas. Devasenapathy scored 21 points, while Lucas scored 17 points. Lucas is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last six games he's played.

Athenian's loss dropped their record down to 13-4. As for Head-Royce, the victory (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 13-3.

Athenian on the road again on Wednesday and play against Redwood Christian at 5:30 p.m. on January 17th. Redwood Christian will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 1019th, while Athenian is ranked 255th). As for Head-Royce, they will take on St. Joseph Notre Dame at 5:45 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in St. Joseph Notre Dame's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five matches.
