Football Recap: Dj Quimby's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Weatherford over Lake Ridge

Weatherford extended their losing streak to six on Thursday, dropping them down to 1-7. They received a blow as they fell 63-46 to the Lake Ridge Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Kangaroos can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 421st, while the Eagles are ranked 104th).

Weatherford's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dj Quimby, who rushed for 192 yards and three scores, and also caught one touchdown. Another receiver making a difference was Jakob Hemphill, who gained 146 total yards and four touchdowns.

As for Lake Ridge, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-2. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.5 points over those games.

DeShawn Edwards produced another solid effort rushing for 109 yards and a pair of TDs on only 12 carries, while also throwing for 219 yards and four touchdowns while completing 85% of his passes. That's the most passing yards he has posted since back in August. Jaiden Cotton helped out on the ground, rushing for 146 yards and a rushing touchdown.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Weatherford will face off against Boswell at 7:00 p.m. on the 31st. The Kangaroos will be up against the Pioneers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 37.88 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Lake Ridge, they will take on Mansfield Legacy at 7:00 p.m. on the 31st.
