Soccer Game Preview: Irvin vs. Bowie

Irvin hasn't had much luck against Bowie recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Irvin Rockets will square off against the Bowie Bears at 7:30 p.m. Irvin's last three games have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Irvin is headed in fresh off scoring the most goals they have all season. They had just enough and edged Mountain View out 2-1 on Friday. That's two games straight that the Rockets have won by just one goal.

Meanwhile, Bowie came tearing into Friday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 2.3 goals), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Wildcats onto the board and left with a 7-0 win. With that victory, the Bears brought their scoring average up to 2.8 goals per game.

Their offense was hitting Fabens from everywhere, as five different players booted in a goal. Amy Acevedo led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for two goals all by herself.

Bowie's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 13 goals over those three matchups. As for Irvin, their victory bumped their record up to 3-10.

Irvin might still be hurting after the 7-0 loss they got from Bowie when the teams last played back in January. Can Irvin avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
