Basketball Recap: Josh Huntley's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Forest Hills over Sun Valley

If Forest Hills was riding high fresh off their 88-36 takedown of Montgomery Central last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Forest Hills Yellow Jackets lost to the Sun Valley Spartans on the road by a 61-44 margin on Monday. The Yellow Jackets were not able to make up for their loss to the Spartans from their previous meeting back in December of 2016.

Several Yellow Jackets players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Josh Huntley, who went 5 of 12 en route to 12 points and six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Makhi Massey, who posted 11 points.

Even though they lost, Forest Hills smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sun Valley only pulled down five offensive rebounds.

Sun Valley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kaleel Benjamin led the charge by going 7 of 9 on his way to 16 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylin Powell, who put up 11 points along with six assists and five boards.

Forest Hills has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.0 points per game. As for Sun Valley, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-5.

Forest Hills didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 80-22 win against Central Academy on the 17th. As for Sun Valley, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Ben L. Smith at 8:00 p.m. on December 27th.
