Softball Recap: Jellico Blue Devils vs. Coalfield Yellow Jackets
Jellico had lost three straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 5-13 to make it four. They came up short against the Coalfield Yellow Jackets, falling 21-0. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Yellow Jackets this season, with their most recent defeat being a 13-5 loss back in March.
As for Coalfield, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-2-2 record this season. The result was nothing new for Coalfield, who have now won 11 games by six runs or more so far this season.
For Coalfield's part, Olivia Laymance made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Laymance has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Gracie Davis was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, eight RBI, and three runs. Those eight RBI gave her a new career-high. Madison Jackson was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and four RBI.
Jellico has already played their next match (against Pigeon Forge), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Coalfield, they have also already played their next contest, a 13-3 defeat against Karns on the 24th.
