Somerset is 7-2 against Central Cambria since May of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Eagles will be playing at home against the Red Devils at 4:30 p.m. Somerset is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.9 runs per game this season.
Central Cambria will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Somerset extended their winning streak to three on Monday. The Eagles came out on top against Greater Johnstown by a score of 4-1.
Garrett Reese spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Cole Lucas, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Callen Miller, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one double.
Meanwhile, Central Cambria fell victim to Penn Cambria and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They lost 6-0 to the Panthers. The Red Devils' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Owen Harringer was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched five innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits.
On the hitting side, Grady Snyder made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases.
Somerset's victory was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for Central Cambria, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-3.
Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Somerset has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .474. However, it's not like Central Cambria struggles in that department as they've averaged .456. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
