Baseball Recap: Providence's Victory on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Providence extended their winning streak to four on Wednesday, bumping their season record up to 12-5 in the process. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Jeffersonville Red Devils a 12-0 shutout. Surprisingly, this marked the Pioneers' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

The result came thanks to Gavin Jackson's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up six Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Providence let Lucas Mauk and Cole Huett run wild. Mauk got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Huett went 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most stolen bases Mauk has posted since back in June of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Haynes, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one double.

As for Jeffersonville, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-9. The shutout was out of character for they seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in April.

On Jeffersonville's side, Braylen Gray made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Providence will face off against Bedford North Lawrence at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (the Pioneers have won three straight at home, while the Stars won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change. As for Jeffersonville, they will challenge Silver Creek at 12:00 p.m. on Friday.
