Basketball Recap: Wallkill Takes a Loss

Wallkill was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 51-48 heartbreaker at the hands of the Valley Central Vikings. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Panthers have suffered since January 10, 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Wallkill lost, don't look at Sean Petricek. Despite the final result, he almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 14 boards. With that strong performance, Petricek is now averaging an impressive 8.1 rebounds per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Marshall, who posted 15 points.

Even though they lost, Wallkill smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in eight consecutive contests.

Wallkill's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Valley Central, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.

Wallkill will take on Rondout Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Wallkill is facing Rondout Valley at the right time seeing as Rondout Valley is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Valley Central, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 58-49 win against Middletown on the 6th.
