Recap: Mineral County Serpents vs. South Tahoe Vikings
The Mineral County Serpents's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They took a serious blow against South Tahoe, falling 51-7. Mineral County was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 39-7.
They got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of
Jazmin Serrato and
Caitlynn Sanchez, who each put up three points.
Chesney Wilson held things down on the boards with five rebounds.
South Tahoe can attribute much of their success to Carly Cox, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Those five rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Avery Long, who scored eight points along with 12 rebounds.
Mineral County's loss was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 2-7. As for South Tahoe, their victory bumped their record up to 4-5.
Mineral County will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Smith Valley at 6:00 p.m. on January 9, 2024. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nevada (Smith Valley is ranked 82nd, while Mineral County is ranked 87th). South Tahoe and Fernley will round out the year against one another at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at. Fernley is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
