Volleyball Recap: Aztec Comes Up Short + How To Watch

Aztec was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Gallup Bengals. The Tigers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Bengals from their previous meeting back in November of 2024.

While Aztec ultimately came up short, they really made Gallup work, particularly in the fourth set. The match finished with set scores of 25-15, 24-26, 25-15, 28-26.

Riley Yoakum paced Aztec's offense, picking up 14 kills. Yoakum got some help from Jazzlyn Gomez and her 13 assists. Khloe Schmidt controlled things from the service line, finishing with six aces.

Aztec's loss dropped their record down to 6-11. As for Gallup, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-9.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Aztec will challenge rival Miyamura at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Gallup is set to take on their familiar foe Kirtland Central at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
