Basketball Recap: Academic Magnet Comes Up Short

Academic Magnet lost against Philip Simmons back in December of 2019 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Academic Magnet Raptors took a 39-26 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Philip Simmons Iron Horses. The Raptors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Academic Magnet still got an impressive performance from Hayden Moody, who posted 11 points in addition to seven boards and four steals. With that strong performance, Moody is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game. Evie Walldorf also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Philip Simmons' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Germany Moore led the charge by dropping a double-double on 11 points and 15 rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Moore a new career-high in steals (seven). Kenira Holmes was another key player, putting up six points and 14 boards.

Academic Magnet's defeat dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Philip Simmons, their win ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 4-11.

Academic Magnet will square off against Burke at 6:30 p.m. on January 24th. As for Philip Simmons, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 48-45 victory against North on the 18th.
