Basketball Recap: Wheaton Academy's Loss Ends 14-Game Winning Streak at Home

Wheaton Academy entered their contest against Niles Notre Dame on Saturday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Wheaton Academy Warriors fell just short of the Niles Notre Dame Dons by a score of 56-54. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Warriors came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 83rd, while the Dons are ranked 246th).

Wheaton Academy's defeat ended a 14-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 10-4. As for Niles Notre Dame, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-6.

Wheaton Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on St. Francis at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th. As for Niles Notre Dame, they will square off against Saint Viator at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Niles Notre Dame knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matches -- so hopefully Saint Viator likes a good challenge.
