Basketball Recap: Highland's Run of Five Straight Victories Now Over

After a string of five wins, Highland's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They lost to the Nezperce Nighthawks on the road by a 53-36 margin. The Huskies were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Nighthawks earlier this season, when they won 32-31.

Several Huskies players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kylee Beck, who posted six points along with 12 rebounds and six steals. Beck has been hot, having posted three or more steals the last six times she's played. Another player making a difference was Alli Mae Moddrell, who had nine points and seven boards.

Even though they lost, Highland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 14 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Highland's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-5. As for Nezperce, their win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 2-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Highland and Genesee will meet in a dog eat dog contest at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Genesee will roll in looking for their 11th straight victory, something Highland surely won't give up without a fight. As for Nezperce, they will face off against Deary at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Deary's defense has only allowed 29.2 points per game this season, so Nezperce's offense will have their work cut out for them.
