Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Willa Lewis and Gracie Woodward Lead Madison County to Victory

There's no place like home for Madison County, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 38-35 win over the Page County Panthers on Friday. This was payback for the Mountaineers, who suffered a 69-49 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Leading Madison County to victory were Gracie Woodward and Willa Lewis. Woodward dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds, while Lewis almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds. That's the most points Lewis has posted since back in January.

Madison County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in five consecutive games.

Madison County moved to 3-6 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak. As for Page County, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.

Madison County will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Luray at 7:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025. As for Page County, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 61-37 loss against Skyline on the 21st.
