Basketball Game Preview: Huntingtown Hurricanes vs. Thomas Stone Cougars

The Huntingtown Hurricanes will face off against the Thomas Stone Cougars at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Huntingtown's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five matches.

Huntingtown is headed into the contest having just posted their biggest win since December 13, 2024 last Thursday. They put the hurt on Patuxent with a sharp 75-52 victory. Given the Hurricanes' advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 121st, while the Panthers are ranked 277th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Brady Swann was his usual excellent self, shooting 71% from the field en route to 10 points and four steals. He is on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 47% in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Trey Smith, who posted seven points.

Huntingtown smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Meanwhile, it can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Thomas Stone had no problem doing just that on Friday. They slipped by the Wolverines 43-42. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cougars.

Huntingtown pushed their record up to 14-8 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.3 points over those games. As for Thomas Stone, their victory bumped their record up to 6-17.

Huntingtown was able to grind out a solid win over Thomas Stone when the teams last played back in January, winning 68-56. Will Huntingtown repeat their success, or does Thomas Stone have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
