Softball Recap: Shadow Hills Picks Up Eighth Straight Win at Home

There's no place like home for Shadow Hills, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out the La Quinta Blackhawks 4-3 on Friday. This was a revenge game for the Knights: when they faced off against the Blackhawks on Tuesday, they had to take a 5-0 loss.

Ava Valenzuela spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Shadow Hills saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Samantha Perez, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Shadow Hills pushed their record up to 15-3 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.8 runs over those games. As for La Quinta, their defeat ended an eight-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-3-1.

Shadow Hills and La Quinta will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next matchups. The next time the Knights see the field they'll take on Palm Desert at 6:30 p.m. on the 29th. As for La Quinta, their break will end when they face Rancho Mirage at 6:00 p.m. on the 29th.
