Preview: Paramus Catholic Paladins vs. Bergen Catholic Crusaders
Paramus Catholic is 1-8 against Bergen Catholic since October of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Paramus Catholic Paladins will be playing at home against the Bergen Catholic Crusaders at 7:00 p.m. The timing isn't great for Paramus Catholic: they have been struggling with five straight losses at home, while Bergen Catholic has snatched up five consecutive wins on the road.
Last Friday, Paramus Catholic was the victim of a rough 35-14 loss at the hands of Don Bosco Prep. While losing is never fun, Paramus Catholic can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey football rankings (they are ranked 42nd, while Don Bosco Prep is ranked sixth).
Despite the defeat, Paramus Catholic had strong showings from Crew Colon, who rushed for 44 yards and a touchdown, and Jadin Johnson, who picked up 119 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Bergen Catholic can now show off four landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat St. Peter's Prep 37-7 on the road. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 21-0.
Among those leading the charge was Kaj Sanders, who rushed for 116 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries. Another player making a difference was Quincy Porter, who picked up 81 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Don Bosco Prep's win bumped their season record to 4-4 while Paramus Catholic's defeat dropped theirs to 3-6.
Paramus Catholic was dealt a bruising 48-20 defeat at the hands of Bergen Catholic when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Thankfully for Paramus Catholic, Saeed St. fleur (who rushed for 212 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 13.3 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
