After both having extra time off, the Cypress Falls Eagles and the Stratford Spartans will dust off their jerseys to square off against one another at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cypress Falls has given up an average of 9.7 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
It was a Battle of the Birds when Cypress Falls faced off against Jersey Village last Friday. Cypress Falls took a 16-11 hit to the loss column at the hands of Jersey Village. The loss continues a trend for the Eagles in their meetings with the Falcons: they've now lost four in a row.
Aubrey Leblanc was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Sofia Gutierrez was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Even though they lost, Cypress Falls always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .619. This was only their first loss (out of five games) when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Stratford's good fortune finally ran out last Friday. They came up short against Cy-Fair, falling 7-1. Having soared to a lofty 17 runs in the game before, the Spartans couldn't push the score so high this time.
Stratford saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alessia Avalos, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Stratford's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 8-4. As for Cypress Falls, their loss dropped their record down to 4-8.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Cypress Falls has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.3 hits per game. However, it's not like Stratford struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.3 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance. Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
