Softball Recap: Independence Has No Trouble Against Sissonville

Independence lost to Sissonville back in May of 2021, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Wednesday. The Patriots blew past the Indians 10-3. Considering the Patriots have won 15 matches by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Paytin Brehm spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on seven hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kassidy Bradbury, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Emma Lilly was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Independence has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Sissonville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-14.

Looking ahead, Independence will head out on the road to square off against Greenbrier East at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Sissonville, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Scott at 6:00 p.m.
