Softball Recap: Mitchell Comes Up Short

Mitchell blew Mountain Heritage out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Friday Mountain Heritage got their revenge. The Mountaineers fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 18-16. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Tuesday (13), the Mountaineers still had to take the loss.

Mitchell got a good showing from Addison Hobson, who tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off seven hits. Hobson has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Mitchell got a massive performance out of Gracie English, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, five runs, and two RBI. English is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Zaiden Ayers was another key player, going 1-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.

Mitchell's loss dropped their record down to 11-5. As for Mountain Heritage, their win bumped their record up to 5-7.

Looking ahead, Mitchell is taking a road trip to square off against Madison at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mountain Heritage, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Draughn at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
