Recap: Wawasee Warriors vs. Whitko Wildcats

The Wawasee Warriors fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against the Whitko Wildcats on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Wildcats 58-53. Wawasee was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Whitko apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.

Leading Whitko to victory were Kyler Krull and Sam Essegian. Krull scored 24 points along with 6 rebounds and 4 blocks, while Essegian dropped a double-double on 25 points and 10 rebounds. The game was Essegian's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylen Gibson, who scored 5 points.

Wawasee's loss dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Whitko, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-1.

Wawasee will head out on the road to face off against Warsaw at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Warsaw knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matchups -- so hopefully Wawasee likes a good challenge. Whitko will be home for the holidays to greet Lewis Cass at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Indiana (Lewis Cass is ranked 117th, while Whitko is ranked 118th).
