Baseball Recap: Kewanee Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Farmington, Kewanee was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They came out on top against the Galesburg Silver Streaks by a score of 15-11. The victory was some much needed relief for the Boilermakers as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Colson Welgat was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Logan Peed, who went 4-for-5 with five RBI, one run, and one double. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ben Taylor, who went 3-for-4 with four runs and two RBI.

Kewanee kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 4-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Kewanee's record now sits at 12-18. As for Galesburg, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-18.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kewanee will challenge Princeton at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Boilermakers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Galesburg, they will take on Richwoods at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
