Baseball Game Preview: Merrill Vandals vs. Webberville Spartans

The Merrill Vandals will venture away from home to square off against the Webberville Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Merrill will be strutting in after a win while Webberville will be coming in after a loss.

Merrill was handed a 14-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Friday. They never let Carson City-Crystal get on the board and left with a 1-0 victory.

Bath hit Webberville with a six-run sixth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Spartans came up short against the Fighting Bees, falling 10-0. The Spartans' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Merrill is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-5 record this season. As for Webberville, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-6-1.

Merrill took their win against Webberville when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 10-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vandals since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
