Baseball Recap: Thurston Find Success

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last seven times Thurston and Crestwood have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Wednesday. The Eagles walked away with an 11-8 victory over the Chargers. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 10-3 on Monday.

Damar Crimes and Xavier Gay were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Crimes pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Gay struck out ten batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. At bat, Crimes got on base in all four of his plate appearances with five stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles, while Gay got on base in all four of his plate appearances with five stolen bases, one run, and one double. That's the most stolen bases Crimes has posted since April 7th.

In other batting news, Thurston let Cortez Crumble and Josiah Robinson run wild. Crumble got on base in two of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs, while Robinson got on base in two of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave Crumble a new career-high. Desmond Ferguson was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run.

Thurston's record now sits at 5-8. As for Crestwood, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-7.

Coming up, Thurston will be playing at home against Garden City at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Crestwood, they will venture away from home to face off against Dearborn at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
