Given Golden's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 67th, while the Farmers are ranked 239th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Golden's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Shad Garnett, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Slade Pike, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Wheat Ridge lost, one person who can't be blamed is Isaiah Rainalter. Despite the final result, he scored 18 points along with seven rebounds. That was a full 41.9% of Wheat Ridge's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
The win makes it two in a row for Golden and bumps their season record up to 10-2. As for Wheat Ridge, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-10.
Golden will take on the Pirates at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Alameda is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Wheat Ridge, they will head out on the road to face off against the Lobos at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Allowing an average of 63.7 points per game, Conifer has struggled on the defensive end, but that doesn't have to be the case in this match.
