Baseball Recap: Hilltop Has No Trouble Against North Central

Hilltop hadn't done well against North Central recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Cadets blew past the Eagles 13-5. Considering the Cadets have won eight contests by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Cameron Shimp made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over 4.2 innings pitched. Shimp was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Devin Dempsey, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. He has become a key player for Hilltop: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 7-9 otherwise. Brady Wagner was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs.

Hilltop kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Hilltop is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for North Central, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-12.

Looking ahead, Hilltop will welcome Edon at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cadets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bombers have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season. North Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
