Recap: Triad Cardinals vs. Fairbanks Panthers

If the Triad Cardinals were feeling good off their 49-14 takedown of the Northeastern Jets last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The game between Triad and Fairbanks wasn't particularly close, with Triad falling 49-30. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Triad of the 47-17 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.

Triad's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mia LeMay, who scored nine points along with 13 rebounds and three steals. LeMay is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last seven games she's played. Abbey Overfield was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, Triad smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fairbanks only pulled down eight offensive rebounds.

Rachael Hoover was the offensive standout of the match as she scored nine points along with five rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Hannah Boehm, who scored 12 points.

Triad has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost nine of their last 12 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season. As for Fairbanks, their win ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-13.

Triad will face off against West Jefferson at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Fairbanks, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against West Liberty-Salem at 6:45 p.m. West Liberty-Salem will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
