Baseball Recap: St. Xavier Picks Up Eighth Straight Win at Home

St. Xavier had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Christian Academy-Louisville Centurions 3-1. The three-run effort marked the Tigers' lowest-scoring matchup of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Mason Nett tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched.

At the plate, Brodie Benefield was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two triples and one run. Those two triples gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jaxon Coomer, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

St. Xavier's win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.1 runs over those games. As for Christian Academy-Louisville, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season.
