Baseball Recap: Vernon Hills Comes Up Short

Vernon Hills lost against Deerfield back in April of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Cougars fell 8-5 to the Warriors. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Ryan Mick was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Tyler Perritt made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole three bases. He has become a key player for Vernon Hills: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 1-7 otherwise. Kyle Kim was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Vernon Hills' defeat dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Deerfield, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Vernon Hills will head out to take on Wheeling at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. As for Deerfield, they will venture away from home to square off against Barrington at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
