James Logan is 8-2 against American since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Colts will venture away from home to challenge the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. James Logan's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so American's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
On Friday, James Logan got the win against Mission San Jose by a conclusive 11-1. The Colts haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Wesley Vega and Ben Towers dominated on the mound. Vega tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits, while Towers tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Towers has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in 12 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Jordan Medina was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Keoni Speakman was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
James Logan was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .474. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for American, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They came out on top against Moreau Catholic by a score of 7-4 on Friday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Eagles as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.
American also got a great performance from Micah Boo as he struck out 12 batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Those 12 strikeouts gave Boo a new career-high.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Dillon Hsiao, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of American's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-16 when he doesn't). Carson Rice also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
James Logan's record now sits at 13-9. As for American, their record is now 5-16.
American's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: James Logan hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .314. It's a different story for American, though, as they've only averaged .220. Will they be able to contain James Logan's hitters?
James Logan came out on top in a nail-biter against American in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 6-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Colts since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
