Softball Recap: Great Bridge Beats Western Branch for Their Third Straight Win

Great Bridge extended their winning streak to three on Thursday, bumping their season record up to 8-2 in the process. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Western Branch Bruins. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wildcats have posted against the Bruins since March 16, 2018.

Bailey Bliven spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Cassie Kleier, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Gabby Parker also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

As for Western Branch, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 8-2 record. They were red-hot at the plate heading into the game (they scored no less than ten runs in the three contests prior), but Great Bridge's pitcher proved too tough.

On Western Branch's side, Kaileigh Taylor was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run. Maddie Lemasters was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Great Bridge will welcome Hickory at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Wildcats 3, the Hawks 0.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Western Branch, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Manor at 5:30 p.m.
