Softball Recap: Appomattox County Has No Trouble Against Amherst County

Appomattox County had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Amherst County on Wednesday. The Raiders blew past the Lancers 7-0. That looming 7-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Raiders yet this season.

The result came thanks to Chloe Vaughan's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Bailey Hamilton, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Regan Sheilds, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

The win (which was Appomattox County's third in a row) raised their record to 4-1. As for Amherst County, their loss dropped their record down to 3-3.

Appomattox County didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, an 8-1 victory against Altavista on the 4th. As for Amherst County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 4-3 win against Rustburg on the 4th.
