Basketball Recap: Herscher Takes a Loss

It was a proper cat-fight when Herscher challenged Wilmington on Monday. The Herscher Tigers took a 44-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wilmington Wildcats. The Tigers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Wildcats earlier this season, when they won 41-34.

Wilmington found their leader in sophomore Sami Liaromatis, who posted 14 points. Liaromatis has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 12 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Skylar Rossow, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten boards.

Herscher has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-10 record this season. As for Wilmington, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season.

Herscher will square off against Reed-Custer at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday. As for Wilmington, they will take on Coal City at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Coal City will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Wilmington surely won't give up without a fight.
