The Thomas Jefferson Jaguars will head out to challenge the Trinity Hillers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Thomas Jefferson's pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so Trinity's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
On Wednesday, Thomas Jefferson made easy work of Gateway and carried off a 13-1 victory. The Jaguars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by six runs or more this season.
Dominic Metz looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single hit any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Luke Kosko, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Justin Fry, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.
Thomas Jefferson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Trinity entered their tilt with South Fayette on Wednesday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 1-0 W against the Lions. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Hillers have posted against the Lions since April 27, 2016.
Jackson Burt looked comfortable as he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He is becoming a predictor of Trinity's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 4-1 (and 3-4 when he doesn't).
On the hitting side, Trinity's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Ayvari Chandler, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI.
Thomas Jefferson is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for Trinity, their record now sits at 7-5.
Thomas Jefferson came out on top in a nail-biter against Trinity in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 7-6. Do the Jaguars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hillers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
